You are nervous the night before your 1st day at work. You go through the mental list created of things you have to prepare or intended to prepare over and over again.

If you have these symptoms, it means this new job is important to you. And you do not want to screw it up.

Welcome to the wonderful new experience of your 1st day at a new job!

We have helped put together a list. It is important to read – “What Not To Say On Your 1st Day At Work“. In order for you not to fumble bumble on your 1st day!

1. SORRY

The question begs to be answered is what are you sorry for on your 1st day? Many of us Malaysians have this particularly bad habit to be sorry for almost everything and everything which is not our fault! (Yes, we being a humble, kind Malaysian souls). But on your first day at work, saying sorry too many times might not only annoy, you might be possibly be giving out a signal that you might be game for bully …? So be confident!

2. SO MANY HOT CHICKS AND AUNTIES

Yes, we know that you have an affinity to only look at beautiful girls AND women. But it is best to keep that thought to yourself. Better, if you can change and not think about it! Because what you think, becomes you. You might just be blurting out in your nervousness to create conversation on your 1st day at the new job!

3. SO WHAT TIME DO WE CLOCK OUT?

In recent times there are many articles on finding work-life-balance. Agree that it is essential to have a work life balance by not over working. But then again, it will really look bad on your first day at work to ask this very important question before the clock strikes 12pm! Your new boss will certainly not be impressed with your many past achievements, as he might judge you by this one question you have just ask.

4. HOW MANY MONTHS BONUS DO YOU GET?

During lunch time with your new colleagues on your 1st day, getting to know you conversations would be the norm. Stick to where you’re from, which department are you from … what do you do in the company and safe questions as such. NEVER ask on your first day, how much bonus do you normally get?

5. TOO MUCH INFO ON INTIMACY

Well, on your first day at work it is alright to speak about yourself and general small talk. But do not try to engage your new colleagues as your new BFF and divulge too intimate information. Your new colleagues will certainly not like to know or maybe it might be the other way around. The next thing you might be hearing more than you bargained for behind your back!
